Aplus.net hosting with a failing grade
I've never tried paid NT/IIS hosting before.. only some free ASP hosting stuff. This time, I had to refer a IIS/Window based hosting with MS SQL. Yeah, I hate to refer anyone any hosting service because I do not use them, and I know no one will be 100% satisfied. I used godaddy hosting service that comes free with a purchase of domain name and worked with yahoo hosting for my clients. (I'll mention those two later)
Aplus.net was being used by one of my old customers, and I had an impression that they supplied quite good control panel, and I ended up referring this service to someone I knew. I'll simply put my verdict.
1) control panel: B-
Some features do not work properly and display errors. I didn't bother with them because I didn't need them. It's not easy to use, either. I had to spend some time and wondering within their menu to enable ASP, IIS, .NET, and SQL. My client could not do anything at all.
2) Speed : D
It was so slow, and I placed very simple scripts that don't even connect to database, and it was awefully slow. Any static page with graphics was noticeably slow, and my client said he couldn't bear it nor use it.
3) Service : F
So I contacted their service. Usually they did not respond. When they did, it was few days later when I was over the problem. After a few months of frustrating use, I chatted to them to cancel the service which we've paid for an year. As all other services these days, I thought they will charge regular rate on months that are used, and refund the difference. However, they said "no refund in their policy."
I understand and it is mostly my mistake to overlook their policy, and I requested for store credit so that I can convert the credit to purchase domain name or so on, but they did not honor that, either.
So all I can do is start writing bad reviews on every review sites... Yes, I have plenty of time from time to time. Last time, I received a refund by writing complaints to BBB, Attorney General, FTC, and so on... in 7 months..

I do not recommend Aplus.net AT ALL.
I would rather prefer GoDaddy.com. It is faster than I've expected, and many of my clients are hoting with them without much problem. Also, purchasing/transferring a domain name includes a free email account, free DNS management under $10/year
I don't know if yahoo hosting is still around, but their support wasn't so good, and I had to stay on the phone for 2-3 hours to get small requests to be applied. When my clients bring their yahoo.com accounts, I usually charge them 2-3 hours extra just in case I have to talk to their support for anything.
