Update to New Micorsoft Edge

Image
With Windows 10, Microsoft Edge has never been "my thing," however, I have found some reasons to update/upgrade. Edge had strange bugs and it started appearing to one workstation at a time, and for some computers, problems never happened. I have countless programs on my workstation and my PC is on for almost 365 days a year, and the Edge didn't show any sign of problems.  So I've just updated to the new Edge. Previous version had strange bug that it wouldn't open.  Once it's opened, it will flash for a fraction of a second then disappears.  Thus many users reported to me that links from email didn't work.  Many of my clients use old IE or Chrome, but usually their default browser is left as MS Edge.  When they click on email links, it would open the URL with Edge, but it disappears very quickly. I've tried applying many fixes know around the web, and these stations were kept with the latest updates, but still no luck. However, after I upgraded to the

Tesla Model 3 and Model Y door light

Image
I have recently purchased a Tesla model Y, and started looking for various accessories.  One big downside of model 3 and y are the fact that they don't come with dashboard display, and I started searching for heads up displays. However, I've ended up finding bunch of other accessories.  A large sun shade for top ceiling sounds good, but I could bear it on sunny days just like at any other car.  I wanted to order perfect fit floor mats, but I can be careful and wait. One that caught my eyes was door light that beams Tesla logo to the ground.  I have tried purchasing one for my BMW X5, but failed because I don't know how they were expecting me to mount to the door.  I've tried on my 2016 X5, and my friend tried on an older 2012 X5, but it couldn't be installed in either. However, this Tesla one seemed to be fitted right at the bottom of the door by replacing an existing bulb, and the result was very satisfactory. Actually, I didn't notice the difference un

Using PayPal BuyNow buttons - now with Smart Buttons

Image
I have been advising online commerce starter clients with limited number of products for sale to start with creating a PayPal business account and use PayPal's 'Buy Now' buttons for sale. It allows my client to create very quick product pages and jump into sales.  Of course, getting there is not so quick and easy. First of all, we need create a PayPal business account.  You can do this by converting the initial personal account to business, and it involves steps to verify your business.  As I recall, you will need enter tax information such as EIN and your business address and verify your business bank checking account by verifying small deposit amounts. These steps may take a few days to a week. By creating Buy Now button going through guided steps and paste the code into your product page, and boom, you are ready to accept payments. One down side was that some users might be confused that they are led to think they need PayPal account to make payments, so you

Modern Warfare 2 - Multiplayer experience (PC)

Image
Call of Duty MW2 by Infinity Ward studio gave some of us very delightful experiences on PC FPS shooter and Co-op games. (Along with Call of duty 5 World At War).  It motivated many of us to upgrade graphic accelerators as well as CPU or anything that lacked of. However, its multiplayer experience has been so disappointing even though game play itself is still fun.  Infinity Ward's first and the biggest mistake, I believe, is creating a peer-to-peer multiplaying mode (without a dedicated server).  I'm sure this has some advantages, but I would rather go back to older disadvantages than having troubles we encounter. 1) Most annoying thing is player matching.  When we search for a game to play, it groups players together and place in a lobby.  This lobby gets lost so often, which means we get kicked out or get disconnected, or get errors even before the game starts. 2) Since it's peer-to-peer, individual players can hack their own computer.  I've seen some creative mo

Aplus.net hosting with a failing grade

Image
I've never tried paid NT/IIS hosting before.. only some free ASP hosting stuff.  This time, I had to refer a IIS/Window based hosting with MS SQL.  Yeah, I hate to refer anyone any hosting service because I do not use them, and I know no one will be 100% satisfied.  I used godaddy hosting service that comes free with a purchase of domain name and worked with yahoo hosting for my clients. (I'll mention those two later) Aplus.net was being used by one of my old customers, and I had an impression that they supplied quite good control panel, and I ended up referring this service to someone I knew.  I'll simply put my verdict. 1) control panel: B- Some features do not work properly and display errors.  I didn't bother with them because I didn't need them.  It's not easy to use, either.  I had to spend some time and wondering within their menu to enable ASP, IIS, .NET, and SQL.  My client could not do anything at all. 2) Speed : D It was so slow, and I placed

Overwhelming speakers ... for now [ Onkyo SKS-HT870 7.1 Speakers ]

Image
For last 10 years, I've been living with 2 speaker systems (or + subwooper) while I've always had 5.1 receiver.  Now that I have overwhelming number of speakers to the receiver, I'm still able to use 2 + subwooper due to my computer and receiver connection limitations. I planned to upgrade the receiver to latest 7.2 channel with HDMI, but until I sell off some stuff and gather enough money, I guess I'm still stuck with stereo setting... -_-;; I'll be posting reviews on the speakers and hopefully a new receiver soon.
